St. Luke’s Health to Adopt CommonSpirit Health Name, Expand Patient Access to Baylor College of Medicine Expertise
HOUSTON, TX (August 17, 2026) — St. Luke’s Health, a member of CommonSpirit Health, will begin using the CommonSpirit name in October while expanding its collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) to enhance patient access to world-class medical expertise, research and treatments.
The enhanced relationship brings BCM specialists to St. Luke’s community hospitals and better represents the cohesive network of care across Greater Houston. St. Luke’s and BCM have jointly owned Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center since 2014.
Adopting the CommonSpirit name more clearly reflects St. Luke’s connection to the national organization, one of the county’s largest faith-based, nonprofit healthcare providers. St. Luke’s, founded in 1954, became part of CommonSpirit Health following the 2019 merger of Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health.
“St. Luke’s Health has been home to some of the most impactful advances in healthcare, thanks in large part to our collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine. This expanded relationship and the introduction of the CommonSpirit name represents an evolution,” said Augusto "Gus" Sepulveda, MD, Chief Medical Officer of the Houston market of CommonSpirit ”Our mission remains the same and we are committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care and serving patients who have placed their trust in us.”

Patients and community members will start to be introduced to the new names through the “Becoming CommonSpirit” advertising campaign, which will highlight the organization’s unification and continued commitment to compassionate, high-quality care.
In the coming months, patients and communities will begin to see the CommonSpirit name and logo appear throughout Greater Houston. While the signs and names will change, the same dedicated care teams will continue serving with the compassion and clinical excellence patients have long known and trusted.
Combining the words “Common Good” and “Holy Spirit,” the CommonSpirit name was derived from scripture: “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good,” 1 Corinthians 12:7 (NIV). The name reflects the shared values of the hospitals and health systems that formed CommonSpirit.
