Position Summary:
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Vice President, Instruction serves as the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) for the campus, overseeing instructional departments, student support/services, and other units as assigned by the campus president. The CAO is responsible for student learning, quality of instruction, data informed decision making, and the pursuit of academic excellence and integrity at the campus and center locations. Promotes an environment supportive of the Lone Star College mission, vision, and strategic plan. Provides effective, creative, and energetic leadership by promoting, supporting, and evaluating innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
Job Functions:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provides leadership for planning, developing, and improvement of instructional programs, which may include but are not limited to, credit transfer and workforce programs, faculty initiatives and professional development, academic support, assessment, accreditation compliance, alternate delivery methods, and institutional effectiveness.
- Champions faculty development and empowers instructors to become exceptional educators, fostering a learning environment that inspires and motivates students, advancing our journey toward Community College 3.0.
- Leads the ongoing development of the instructional division toward "normalizing amazing," challenging the status quo to elevate the classroom experience to ensure that all students receive the connection, engagement, teaching innovation, and wraparound supports needed to thrive to credential completion.
- Leads close collaboration between campus divisions in pursuit of LSC and LSC-CyFair goals.
- Works with LSC key personnel to establish college-wide protocols for faculty hiring, workload, and other relevant issues. Provides leadership and oversight of curriculum development and implementation of curricula, courses, programs, and activities.
- Ensures that faculty and programs remain compliant with all applicable internal and external rules, regulations, guidelines, and requirements (focus on SACS, GIPEWE, THECB, WECM), as well as with LSC policies and procedures.
- Manages, monitors, and administers area budgets. Implements budget controls and performs needs assessments for development of annual budgeting recommendations.
- Continuously reviews, analyzes, and evaluates instructional programs seeking opportunities for continuous improvement. Makes recommendations to campus President about the creation, improvement, and deactivation of instructional programs in collaboration with the faculty, deans, and college president.
- Provides leadership in the recruitment, hiring, orientation, evaluation, retention and professional development of faculty, administration, and staff.
- Resolves student, faculty, and dean's issues/grievances and academic appeals through collaboration and appropriate appeal processes.
- Develops and pursues professional relationships with area ISD's, higher education institutions, and community organizations to increase educational partnerships and to determine community educational needs within the college's service area.
- Actively participates as an LSC representative on various committees, meetings, and conferences.
- Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned.
Required:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Master's degree and at least 10 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
· Experience must include at least 5 years in a management level position
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctoral degree
- At least 5 years of experience as a Dean or similar level
