To Kill A Mockingbird
A.D. Players, one of Houston’s oldest and largest resident theater companies, has moved its troupe from the Grace Theater to its new 440-seat venue, the Jeannette and L.M. George Theater (George Theater). The Players completed its 39-year run at the 212-seat Grace Theater in December. To Kill a Mockingbird will be the first show performed at the new $18 million George Theater, just in time for the A.D. Players’ 50th anniversary season. The American classic, dramatized by Christopher Sergel, runs February 12 – March 5, and is the first of six notable plays coming to the George Theater in 2017. Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird contrasts the idyllic innocence of childhood with powerful themes of racial prejudice and injustice. The character of Atticus Finch, a lawyer who defends a man falsely accused of a crime, is played by Jason Douglas, an established actor who has made regular appearances on the well-known hit television show, The Walking Dead. Additional actors include Callina Situka as Calpurnia and Jemma Kosanke as Scout. Future performances include Charlotte’s Web, You Can’t Take It With You, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Godspell.
