Fundraising Lunch for Kevin Brady
Dean Harman with Harman Wealth Management will be hosting a fundraising luncheon for Kevin Brady.
There is a critical event taking place soon and I am personally inviting you to be an exclusive guest.
We are meeting with Congressman Kevin Brady (R-TX), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, the most powerful committee in the U.S. House of Representatives to talk with him, one-on-one, about the most pressing issues facing the independent financial services industry.
While we can discuss a wide array of issues with the Chairman during this event, which is also a fundraiser, we need to zero in on one critical issue in particular: Worker classification.
There have been efforts for years in the states to reclassify independent financial advisors as employees of their broker-dealers for tax purposes, rather than the independent contractor status they currently hold. While our trade association, the Financial Services Institute (FSI), has successfully fought and won these battles in the states, we are advocating for inclusion of carve-out language in tax reform legislation exempting our industry from these attempts to turn independent advisors into employees of broker-dealers.
Chairman Brady is critical to our efforts as all tax reform legislation originates in his Ways and Means Committee.
Below are some key stats on Chairman Brady:
- Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee
- Representing the 8th District of Texas (Houston suburbs) since 1997
- The 8th district includes all of Montgomery, Walker, Houston, San Jacinto, Trinity, Grimes, Madison, and parts of Leon and Harris Counties
- A pro-small business conservative and considered a champion of free enterprise
- Worked as a Chamber of Commerce executive for 18 years and served six years in the Texas House of Representatives
- Unlike many members of Congress, Chairman Brady never moved to Washington, D.C. in order to stay close to the people he represents
