Going Green Lecture: Steven Johnston, Senior Planner Community and Environmental Department, Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC). Mr. Johnston will discuss the current quality of water in Spring Creek and the West Fork of the San Jacinto River Watersheds. He will also tell us what we as individuals can do to protect the integrity of these important regional water bodies and what the future brings if we do nothing. He will speak to the water quality parameters in these two related systems that do not currently meet water quality standards set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. He will also explore possible causes for the impairments. Projects, practices, and opportunities that can be taken on at the local residential and community level to improve water quality will be highlighted. Prior to coming to the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), Steven spent 12 years working as a project coordinator for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Galveston Bay Estuary Program, implementing the Galveston Bay Plan’s Monitoring and Research and Water and Sediment Quality action plans. Mr. Johnston received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Houston at Clear Lake.
